Natural Headache Relief
Here at Regenerate Chiropractic, we see many people complaining of headaches. Whether you have suffered with them all your life, or have the odd one, we have some simple solutions you can try. We encourage anyone suffering from headaches to first get an examination and treatment from their Chiropractor as most commonly the spine is the cause of your headaches. Following this, you can undertake the following to help manage them between your chiro or physio appointments.
Hydrate
Dehydration is a common cause of headaches, but something you can easily correct. Try and at least drink 2 litres of water a day and spoil yourself by getting a new drink bottle.
Relaxation Techniques
Meditation, yoga, and deep breathing exercises are all techniques you can use to lower stress levels and reduce your headache frequency and intensity.
Stretching and Massage
Many people find relief from the headaches through undertaking regular stretching and massage, especially for those people sitting at a desk all day. Stretching and massage focuses on the deep neck muscles, particularly the suboccipital muscles, a common area causing tension headaches.
Avoid Trigger Foods
Pay attention to what you’re eating on days you experience headache pain. Many migraine sufferers know that certain foods can trigger their migraines and by limiting their intake of those foods, they can keep migraines at bay. For example, chocolate, processed meats, coffee, nuts, citrus fruits, aspartame, and alcoholic drinks are some of the most common headache triggering foods. If your headaches are becoming a regular part of your week, start keeping a food diary to pinpoint possible triggers.
Essential Oils
Certain essential oils are thought to help ease headache pain. Peppermint, for instance, is commonly used to ease tension headache pain when applied to the temples and forehead. (Make sure to read all instructions that come with your oils thoroughly for proper use.)
Sleep
Sleeping too much or too little can bring on migraines, so keeping to a regular sleep schedule can help prevent them.
You do not have to live with frequent headaches. Pain is a signal that something is not right, so try to stay positive while pinpointing the cause. And remember, we are here to help you.
