Low Impact Exercise

Four LOW IMPACT exercises you can do every day

For many of our clients at Regenerate Chiropractic, the thought of doing intense workouts is just impossible! Throwing weights around and running quickly is a thing of the past, but movement is essential for everyone’s life.

For our patients who want to keep moving, without overloading their body, we suggest they undertake low impact exercise. Low impact cardio exercises have multiple health benefits and are perfect for any age or stage of life. Getting active for at least 30 minutes a day with cardio can impact your mood through the relief of endorphins, improve heart health, reduce the risk of Type 2 diabetes, and combat high blood pressure. It has also been shown to improve longevity, not just adding years to life but life to years.

Here are a few different low impact exercises you can work into your day.

Walking

Walking at a moderate speed for at least 20-30 minutes daily can be extremely helpful in improving heart health through increasing blood flow throughout your body. Not only this, but walking also activates your muscles and helps burn calories. Walking is a great low impact exercise as you decide the pace and how long you walk, perfect for someone trying to return to exercise and slowly build their fitness.

Bike Riding

Do you have a bike that is collecting dust and getting rusty? Well, it is time to dust off your bike and start riding. Cycling is an awesome low impact exercise you can begin. Start by setting a weekly goal of km’s you wish to ride or nominate a set time to ride for. Remember consistency is better than intensity.

Swimming

If you have access to a pool or local aquatic centre, swimming is an excellent way to sneak cardio into your day. If you have injuries, it is also ideal for rehab exercises. Hydrotherapy is a great way to rehabilitate an injury under the direction of your chiropractor or physiotherapist.

Stretching

Yes, stretching is exercise! Better yet, it can help you wake up in the morning or relax after a long day. It will make muscle and fascia mobile so that you can do your day-to-day activities at your best. It has been shown to also encourage blood flow in areas of tension.

Rowing

If you have access to a rowing machine it is an amazing full body workout. It uses over 86% of your bodies muscles and is an upper and lower body workout in one. It helps boost cardiovascular conditioning as well which is vital to overall health.
